University Distinguished Professors
The rank of University Distinguished Professor was established and approved by the MSU Board
of Trustees in June 1989. Among the original list of faculty elevated to that
rank were three members of the Physics/Astronomy Faculty and the NSCL: Professors
Sam Austin, Henry Blosser and Konrad Gelbke. Since that time five others
have been elevated to that rank. Below
are the names of the University Distinguished Professors in the Physics and
Astronomy Department and the starting date at this rank.
