Sensing metalic and transparent objects using inductive proximity and photoelectric sensors.

The Center for Sensor Materials participated in the community education outreach program, Science Day at the Mall at Meridian Mall, February 3, 2001. Hundreds of people of various ages and backgrounds, especially elementary school children and their parents, attended the event. CSM faculty, staff and students explained the operation and principles of simple sensors commonly found in home, or used in manufacturing and telecommunications. The hands-on sensors attracted much attention and aroused the curiosity of K-12 children. Some sensors shown at the Mall were donated by companies specializing in manufacturing sensors.
