INDEX E4 : INDUCTION

E4.01 AC GENERATOR - VERSION 1

Spindler and Hoyer model of an AC generator which has no coils in the armature.

E4.02 AC GENERATOR - VERSION 2

Spindler and Hoyer model of an AC generator with a rotating coil armature and slip rings.

E4.03 INDUCTIVE VS NON-INDUCTIVE CIRCUITS

A current reaches its Ohm's Law value more slowly in an inductive circuit than in a non-inductive circuit.

E4.04 JUMPING RING (Lenz's Law)

An aluminium ring is hung around a large electromagnet. When current is applied to the electromagnet, the ring leaps into the air. If a ring with a small gap is used, it does not jump.

E4.05 INDUCED EMF

An induction coil produces a high EMF (and imitation lightning.)

E4.06 COILS, MAGNETS, & A GALVANOMETER

Shows the simple salient facts of induced EMFs.

E4.07 WIRE CUTTING A MAGNETIC FIELD

A wire moving through a magnetic field deflects a galvanometer.

E4.09 HOMOPOLAR GENERATOR

Uses a homopolar generator to produce an EMF from a magnetic field.

E4.10 JACOB'S LADDER

Shows the relationship between heating and spark gap.

E4.11 INDUCTIVE SEESAW

Bar magnets suspended from springs hang inside two connected solenoids. When one magnet is set oscillating, the induced EMF starts the other magnet oscillating.

E4.12 INDUCED LIGHT

When a coil is brought near a large electromagnet, a light bulb connected to the coil glows.

E4.13 INDUCTIVE SPARK

When a circuit with large inductance is opened, there is a large discharge of energy.
