For those of you using Tex and looking for NT software to handle it, Harry Weerts has found a program he is happy with. On top of that he bought a set of 10 licenses and he is offering the extra ones to us. So if you need to manipulate Tex files download the evaluation version from Harry's machine or from the Web. If you like it and end up depending on this software, send Harry a message so that he can allocate one of the extra licenses to you. ...Thanks Harry, Philippe ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: MSUPA::WEERTS "Man van Staal" 22-JAN-1998 10:56:59.63 To: laurens CC: WEERTS Subj: Tex for Windows NT. Michigan State University, 22-MAY-1997 Dear All: if you want to use the NT TeX version I found, ftp to msuhjmw.pa.msu.edu as anonymous. You will see several folders. Copy: miktex and winedt141c. The README files are self explanatory and simple. Install miktex in the suggested default directory, it is easier for Winedt to operate. The previewer with Miktex is called Yap. Everything should work except for the DVI viewer in Winedt which is set to use dviwin. To change this to yap: goto Options/Menu Setup and edit &Utilities. Here all the commands can be defined. So change DVI driver to DVI viewer and change what is on the command line to c:\texmf\miktex\bin\yap.exe %p%N.dvi You have to add the extension to the file name oterwise it will not work. I got it to work, so should be a piece of cake for you. This version is great: has a good editor, with buttons for latex, tex, dvips, dviviwer, .... It is geared for TeX, so all the symbols are in menus, it reads the log file for errors and pops you right back into the tex file where the error occurred. It has a smart speller that ignores all TeX commands. It uses Latex2E. I bought ten licenses ( $200) for it, but an evaluation version is downloadable for free from the Ctan archives. It is shareware, and they would like us to register and pay. So I did.
