Pavo, the peacock:
German astronomer Johann Bayer created this constellation in 1603.
It can be found between the constellations of Telescopium, the telescope,
and Octans, the octant. Although the constellation is modern, peacocks
have mythological connections to ancient Greece. The peacock was
the symbol for the goddess Hera, who placed the 100 eyes of the
giant Argus into the tail of peacock to honor his service.
