Sceptrum Brandenburgium, the Brandenburg scepter:
A modern constellation created in 1688 by the Prussian astronomer
Gottfried Kirsch from dim stars found between Eridanus, the river,
and Lepus, the Hare. This constellation represented the scepter
used by the royal family of the Brandenbergs. Other astronomers
to include it on atlases were Johann Ehlert Bode and Elijah Burritt,
who created this image of the constellation. Soon afterward it was
forgotten and its stars were returned to the constellation of Eridanus.
