PHYSICS AND ASTRONOMY COLLOQUIUM Thursday, March 1, 2007 4:10 p.m. 1415 Biomedical & Physical Sciences Bldg. Refreshments at 3:30 pm in Rm. 1400 BPS Bldg Speaker: Richard Milner M.I.T. Title: Studying the Glue Which Binds Us All Abstract: Quantum Chromodynamics tells us that the proton and neutron constituents of atomic nuclei are bound systems of light mass quarks interacting via exchange of gluons. The talk will describe our current understanding of this unfamiliar world, present a number of important, open questions and motivate a new electron-ion collider (EIC) to study the glue which binds us all.
