Applying what I have learned In computational physics 

This course was very helpful for me; it helped me to go over the barrier that was keeping me away, for a long time, from stepping to the “professional side” of using the computer, although I don’t consider my self as a professional user yet, but I really learned a lot in this course. It transferred me from a regular Microsoft windows user to a user that can actually tell the computer what to do.

I have already used some of what I have learned during this course in my work:

For example I used Gnuplot and postscript to graph all the figures in my research paper, these new graphs looked much better than the old ones that I have made with Microsoft Excel.

I also used Html language to redesign my home page that I previously designed with Netscape editor, which was not very helpful all the time.

I used a Unix based LateX compiler instead of the TeX editor Winedit and MikTeX compiler that run under windows, and without what I learned in this course of being able to survive in Unix environment I would not have been able to do that.

The part that I liked the most about this course is being able to write programs, I am now capable of writing Fortran programs that ranges from very simple programs that deal with solving a set of first or second order equations to programs that deal with different techniques in doing numerical integrations and differentiations and others that deal with differential equations and roots of nonlinear equations, matrices and matrix inversion, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, and fitting techniques, to somehow complicated programs that deals with many body problem, molecular dynamics, Fourier transforms, and Monte Carlo methods.

Although I may not be using all these techniques and methods in my work and study, I will definitely use some of them and I am sure they will be a helpful tool for me, like using different numerical integration and differentiation techniques, differential equations, Monte Carlo methods, and many body problem-solving techniques.
