THE STUDENT OUTREACH
CONFERENCE:
July 30 - August 1, 1993 Science Theatre sponsored a national Student Outreach
Conference, held on the campus of Michigan State University. The purpose of this
three day conference was to showcase the various demonstrations and stage
presentations that Science Theatre and similar outreach groups have been bringing to the
public. Participants were able to make and take an actual physics
demonstration apparatus to use in their own outreach activities.
Also, participants received the
"Recipes for Science".
Sessions were held on Organizing Outreach Programs, Demonstrations
and Presentations, The Science Fair, Demonstration Workshops, Toy
Workshops, and Funding for Outreach Organizations and Outreach Networks.
There were 56 attendees from across the country and Canada and
included graduate and undergraduate students, staff members, faculty
and museum workers.
The Student Outreach Conference resulted in the formation of a Student Outreach
Network through a listserv at MSU, however, the past few years it has been used very little.
The presence of a network, where we could interact with other student outreach organizations
could be very useful, if done properly. We are interested in getting feedback from other outreach
organizations as to what you would like to see in a new student outreach network.
Please send us a e-mail(sciencet@pa.msu.edu)
or a letter with your suggestions. Thank you!
This conference was sponsored by the William F. and Edith R. Meggers
Project Award of the American Institute of Physics
