THE PRESENT AND THE FUTURE:

Currently, Science Theatre has about 150 student (graduate and undergraduate) members, with help from a handful of faculty members and staff. An elected Steering Council meets weekly to determine appearance dates, content and to oversee demonstration development. Although ST enjoys the support of many of the departments in the College of Natural Science, the organization is run by the students who are willing to volunteer their time and talent in order to make this new idea work.

Presently, the plans for Science Theatre are two-fold. First, Science Theatre would like to become more integrated into the school system. Towards this end, ST has held a national teacher conference with the purpose of a mutual exchange of ideas with regard to curriculum, age-appropriateness, and safety concerns in science education. Additionally, ST has recently hosted a national Student Outreach Conference held on the campus of Michigan State University.

Second, Science Theatre is making efforts to become more involved with the curriculum of the Michigan School System. This will include working closely with area experts on science curriculum in the Michigan schools to develop modules that fit into the goals of the school system. Also, introductory and follow-up classroom materials to accompany ST visits will be developed with the help of area education professionals.
